A hermaphrodite or freemartin never comes into heat and can't get pregnant. They are sterile. One other thing I watch for in does I have questions about is for the teats to develop. Notice how tiny the teats are on a newborn, look at them on a 6 to 8 month old virgin doe. BIG DIFFERENCE! A hermaphrodite or a freemartin's teats will not grow, they stay tiny. Theresa, Our little is about 10 day old. We were going to give her a little time to get a little bigger before checking her. I don't know if I can wait though. She is so pretty it just makes me sad. We've had two offers on her already and I've had to tell them the at this time she is on hold. We may try to breed her and kid her out before selling as a pet or breeder. I'm going to check out your picture right now. Actually I think I did and two days before she was born and all I could think was "if only I hadn't read that email" I know how stupid that sounds, but it's te 1st thing that popped into my mind... Cindy, I forgot to mention the posting is under "Does anyone know what this is" At the time of the picture there was what appeared to be "bruising" on the pea shape, which is not there now, making it appear much like what your picture looks like. She has a brother and they also were out of 2 unrelated horned goats. |

Cindy, This is exactly what my newborn doeling looks like. I would appreciate any information you find out on it. I have contacted my vet on it, and he told me that it could be hermaphrodite, or it could just be an enlarged clitoris. I have emailed him the picture of it, but he has not gotten back with me on it yet. You can look at the picture on my posting. They look very much the same. When I done the vulva test, I got in about 3/4 to 1 inch before hitting a wall. How old is your doeling? Thanks, Theresa |

Could be, insert a finger into her vulva to see how deep it is. If she is a hermaphrodite you rfinger will go in an inch or less. She could be freemartin, does she have a brother from the same birth? Hermaphrodites and freemartins can't be fixed. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
