Most feeds are still inadequate when it comes to trace minerals. It is assumed you will provide a loose mineral mix apropriate for your herd and area of the country. Most trace minerals mixes have quite a bit of salt. It is the salt that makes the goats eat the minerals and most directions say do not provide any other source of salt. Thank you for the advice, I think it is more towards the fungus than lice or mites, because they don't itch! I also already use ivomec orally with all my goats, but the mineral content is something I'll have to look into baecause I'm not sure how much copper and zinc are in our food. Thank You, Sincerely, David Sexton M.G.M. Boers |

I think Maggie's recommendation for the loose minerals is terrific. After seeing her info on it a past post, I realized the importance of adequate minerals for goats. I provide a continuous supply, including salt, and I feel my boers have much less health problems including more resistance to parasites. For your current problem, I would try an anti-fungal spray used for athete's foot. Walmart now has a generic version available that is much less than other brands. Must be careful to avoid the eyes when treating infection on the face area. |

COuld be lice or mites. A dose of synergized delicer pour on or Ivermectin pour on done once a week for 3 weeks will solve most external parasite problems. Most other skin cruddies are strongly linked to a mineral deficiency, mostly copper and zinc. Your loose mineral mix should have about 1200 ppm copper and 3000 ppm zinc. Making usre these minerals are supplied adequately will boost the immune system, increase or maintain high fertility in both does and bucks and help with proper and normal kidding. I am new into goats and have a small herd of boers and spanish. I bought a doe and her two kids this spring and one of the kids started getting scabs and crusty build up on her neck and between her shoulder blades, but not really itching it. It spread to her face also, so I used women's vaginal infection cream and it seemed to go away, but then more and more of my goats seemed to come down with the same thing and I would like to know what exactly it is and how to properly treat it? Otherwise my goats seem to be doing well. I talked to a few people that are big into goats and nobody has been able to help me as of yet. Please Help!!
