Contact your vet in your area before giving the BoSe, find out what he suggests as a dosage. Giving too much selenium can/will exhibit the same signs as if they were selenium deficient. There is no remedy for over dosing. I strictly stick to 1/2 cc per my vet, even this dose can be a little much. 0.3-0.5 ccs are recommended for newborns. Also loose minerals are best for goats as their tongues are to soft and small to get the nutrients from the mineral blocks, unless the mineral blocks are made with Molasses. Be careful with BoSe or any selenium for that matter. You can over dose them very easily. Don't give newborn kids anymore than a 1/2 cc. 1 cc is too much for their system to handle. You dose BoSe at 1 cc per 40 pounds, newborns are no where near this weight. |

We have had this often. We get a mixed feed at our feed mill with the highest level of Vit A,D,& E and the highest dose of Selenium they are allowed to put in it. Also B-4 we breed the does everyone gets. 4-5cc of Bo-Se and 5-6cc of Vit B and E. Then about 6-8 weeks B-4 they deliver we give them 4cc of Bo-Se and 4cc of Vit E. After the kids are born and have nursed we give 2 pumps per kid of Goat Nutri Drench and 1cc of Bo-Se and 1cc of Vit. B if there really bad I also give 1cc of Vit E. Now some people will disagree with giving Bo-Se B-4 kidding but I called a vet @ Pipestone Vet Clinic. They have a 24 hr help line with wonderful vets. There # is 1-507-825-5687. Anyway I called them about this problem with our babies and they said even though the drug lable says not to give to preg. "Ewes" it should still be given he said more people should be giving this drug then not. Also get Mineral blocks (not salt blocks) and put in with your does especially. Do not put salt and mineral blocks in with them only mineral. The baby will get better if it hasn't yet. We have some that have been pretty bad and they eventually come out of it. Hope this helps. It gets dicouraging but those little faces are worth it. Something to think about if you up you Vit and Selenium in you feed and this happens next year after you have given shots and everything it very likely could be the doe. We had one do this and she is going to the aution after her kids are weaned. Have a Great Kidding Season. |

You can give her 1/2 cc of BoSe orally. Put it under the tongue. It can take up to a week to notice full benefits of it, so be patient. I normally see results with in 1-2 days. |

She did stand up after she was born, her brother is quite a bit smaller than her. She weighs 9lbs. It is very possible about the selenium. my dh has built a sling to help her stand up on her own legs and she is eating well now, but is having a hard time moving her hind legs. Is there a shot or vitamins that will help? |

Does she have movement and feeling in her legs? Could she walk at birth? Selenium deficiency can cause extremely weak leg muscles... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
