I think we simultaneously posted the last message.
I gave it in the muscle and she was better with in the hour.
You have been watching her so you have probably caught this in time.
If any one posts an answer to your question that contradict me do what they tell you.
Over dose rather than under with B1.

Polio is more a symptom of something else that has gone wrong than a disease by intself. A worm overload, a change in feed, going off feed. And she has done all of these things too.

If it is this one - COMPOSITON: Each mL of sterile aqueous solution contains: Thiamine Hydrochloride (B1) 100 mg you can give 1 cc per 20 pounds every 4 to 6 hours for the first 24 hours then 2 to 3 times a day for 5 to 7 more days..

If it is this one - COMPOSITION: Each mL of sterile aqueous solution contains: Thiamine Hydrochloride (B1) 12.5 mg you need to give 1 cc per 3 pounds every 4 to 6 hours for the first 24 hours then 2 to 3 times a day for 5 to 7 more days.

Ok, just so i have my notes right - i will be giving the vitamin B complex at 1cc per 20lbs every 4-6 hrs. ( I'll do every 4 though)for the first 24 hrs. Then i want to give it 2 or 3 times per day for another 5 to 7 days. Am i right ?

Ok, now for the questions. Since you all said you can't OD on it, can i be safe and give her 3cc, i'm not sure on her weight and don't have a scale, but i'd guess between 40-60lbs. Should this be given IM or SQ ? In one of the posts i recall somebody saying the first dose is best given IV ? If it will really make a difference i can have my mother give it to her IV - if for some reason she can't get to my house before me, can i give her a dose IM or SQ and then have her second dose done IV - or would that just be pointless ?

Besides polio, could there be something else wrong that i should be prepared to treat ? Thanks !!!

My goat had blood in her mouth and she was licking a treated fence post when I found her.
She licked everything in the barn when we brought her in.
She would pick up a piece of hay, chew it and drop it.
They try to eat weird things when they are vitamin deficient.
I think mine bit the inside of her mouth or tongue.

Thanks Elaine :-) I did however call the Farm and Fleet and found out that they DO have it - thank goodness ! And i had them put it and more syringes at the front counter so Cliff can just pick it up and be on his way. He is terrified of shots, and won't give them - but if he gets back home way before i will be getting home i can have my mother meet him there and give her her first one.

I hope this is it and it's not too late - please everybody send healthy goat vibes our way :-) Thanks a bunch !

As a last resort check with the local pharmacy, you can try thiamine tablets or capsules for people, Vitimin B complex. If you can't get her to eat them easily, grind them up and make a thin paste and put into a syring (without needle) and put it as far into the back of her mouth as possible. How long before your B comes in the mail?
Somebody help me with this... Should the dose be more than the reccomended dose for humans? How often? Chrystyna, if nobody posts answers to these questions... ? double the human dose every 4 hours. My best guess. I know the B vitimins go right through the system and do not build up to become toxic so over dose rather than under. Let me know.

Ok, so i called ALL the vets, nobody has any stinking vitamin b complex, so our last hope my hubby is trying - he has to go to the cities to pick up my cousin, and on his way he is going to stop by a Farm and Fleet and see if they have it - so please keep your fingers crossed. Even if they do, it won't be until 3-4:00pm when she will be able to get her first shot - i hope she makes it, and hope she still has a chance of recovering.

Could she have had polio this whole time ? If so then it's been since Thurs. evening, otherwise could it be she had a worm problem or something else, and is just now coming down with polio ? Because after i found her Thurs. and brought her in, she seemed to improve somewhat and could get up and down by herself and there was a "glimmer" of hope. Then since yesterday she has gone down hill, when she did walk yesterday evening( and ate a good amount), she would push her head into things and lean, and then she laid down and has lost the ability to stand/get up/hold her head up. She would walk in a straight line, but was out of it, she didn't "star gaze", but had a odd look to her - and seemed to be losing vision(hubby actually noticed that and pointed it out). As i was sitting with her talking to her last night ( about 9:00pm ) i noticed some eye twitching(both eyes), she was curling and uncurling her lip, would sometimes hold her mouth open, and started drooling.

I was realy shocked that she made it through the night - i hope it won't be too late for her, and that polio is what it is so she can get treated and pull through.

Elaine-yesterday i also noticed some blood on/around her mouth, but though it was maybe from falling or bumping into something ?

Could this be anything else ? It is nice to hear of others success stories - it helps. Thanks~
