Little P is doing much better now I feed her and Hopper Popper 4x's a day. They seem alright with that so far. Well see how long this will last. |

Up the amount by a half an ounce each feeding. Or feed her more often (the better solution). Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Little P is trying to eat more than 6 to 8 oz. I do not want to over feed her. Hopper Popper knows when she had enough. But, Little P acts as she is still hungry. I know not to let her over eat. What to do??clipart{blush} |

Bring out the bandLittle P is taking a bottle. She started yesterday. I have the sheep nipples, I had done this before with a buck, and of course Hopper Popper. But, it was not this hard to get a kid to take a bottle. But, now it got really cold here. So I hope they the little ones have enough fat to say warm through this cold spell. Wanted to let everyone know that Little P is taking a bottle. Hope she keeps with it and makes it through the winter. |

My neighbor turned me on to Prichard Nipples. But they can be aggrivating and messy when trying to start a kid. I normally start out with the smallest baby medicine dropper I can find or use a syringe with the twist off needles. I work with them every half hour untill they accept the taste of the formula and then work with them on accepting the feel of the nipple. Usually by the end of the day I get them to bottle feed without a huge fight.} |

I would put them with the other goats. No goat including the mother will protect them from a coyote attack, in istances like these it is every goat for themselves... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a question now that the two kids are alone in the pen. No other big goats are with them. Will they stay warm? They cuddle up to each other I have seen them do it. But I am worried that they will have something get them. We have coyotes. And had 2 of the yearing killed by coyotes. Went right in the pasture and killed them. I was think about bring the two little one up and put them in the summer kictchen" like a spring house with out a spring." Just till they are big enough to go with the other goats or one of the other does kid. I have a couple yearing does that I could put in with them. Do you think she would protect them or run to save her self? I know alot of questions, last bottle feed goat we kept at the house that was the wrong thing to do. Never learned to be a goat. Now that PITA " sorry spelled her name wrong before" passed I am worried that the two little ones will not make it. Thanks for any help. |

So sorry you lost PETA. Keep trying with the bottle, make sure the milk is very warm. Hunger is a great motivator and most kids will learn to take a bottle after a time. Little P really needs a bottle, her system is not really ready for solid food as her only source of nutrition. As for the moms, parasites can cause real problems in does that are nursing. When did you last deworm, what did you give and how much? Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Jennifer, sorry to hear your goats died like that. There could be a number of reasons why but without more info, it is hard to tell. The main thing is getting these kids fed now. The kids that are 2 to 3 weeks old, you are pretty much going to have to bottle feed. You may have to be forceful at first...eventually they will come around to it. She is kind of young to go right to solids...most kids keep nursing for several weeks at least. With the milk, if you are going to use the powdered milk replacer, be sure to get the one that contains NO SOY. Purina Kid Milk Replacer is great, so is the Pro Nurse formula. There are also several recipes which will let you make your own replacer...I've just found it easier to make up the replacer from the powdered (and feed the leftover to the dogs). You didn't say what type of nursing nipple you are using...there are different ones and the one I have had the best success with is a small black one that runs about .50 each. You may need to open up the end slightly for better milk flow. It sounds like you already know what you are doing milk wise...I would keep trying to milk her for the next few weeks at least and gradually introduce the solids...hay or all grain/all stock. These first several months are crucial in what they eat from the ground because they can often get coccidiosis if they are eating from the ground where other goats have been and there is feces present. At least with the milk replacers, they have a formulated ration that helps build up their system to ward off such conditions. Hope this helps, best regards, GP Gary Pfalzbot, GoatWorld

Ok Now I have 2 without mom's. Hopper Popper mom died a little over 2 weeks ago. I have no reason why? She went down at night and by the next day she was gone. Now Little P's mom PETA died last night, she was fine all day. Even last night for Hopper Popper last bottle feeding.Went down this morring to feed the girls and boys. PETA was at the gate dead " there are in a pen, big kidding pen put it that way, no other goats just PETA and the two kids" the two little ones laying beside her trying to keep warm. Little P is about 2 weeks old, and today tryed to bottle feed her. She will have nothing to do with it. But she nibbles at the feed and hay. But I am afarid she not going to get enough. I know when she hungry she will eat. Just got really cold here in Pa.I do not want to lose her. This will be the 3rd kid I have bottle raised.Sprite went right to reg. goat feed at 6 months. I would like to know is there some kind of kid feed. They have it for lambs, pony, hores, ect. Or do I just hope she will eat the other feed for the big goats? The two will eat the pellets out of the feed for the big goats and thats about it.Please anyone who can help me would be great. Thank You |
