No im not a commrical dairy i do sell milk and cheese but not at stores I used that because i grew up on a dairy farm and thats what we used but now i have to buy it myself. I use soap and water or Fiasco Farm has a very good homemade recipe for teat wipes and teat dip. Lots cheaper than what you are paying ans the ingredients are available at the grocery store. I don't dip the teats but wipe them off after I am done milking. Since my does are nusring kids I use "kid safe" stuff, just a tiny bit of soap and water. Udder wash and teat dip, the commercial preparations, are required if you have a commercial dairy, not if you are milking for yourself. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

ok thanks Maggie! will do that . On your how to use your Maddian milker you use teat dip for washing and diping can you use only one? I use a udder wash (25.00 a gallon) and you have to dilate it. and a teat dip (27.00 a gallon) and dip the teats and let them dry so im over 50.00 every few months can i just use a teat dip for washing? The hooves are very soft at birth, covered with s gummy white tissue that tears off as they walk around. SOmetimes as the hoof is shedding this protective tissue and hardening it gets a tiny wound and bacteria can enter that way. that is why some people dip the hooves too. Not a bad idea it doesn't hurt. But dip the cord FIRST then the hooves and then discard that dip, don't use it on the next kid. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

6% Iodine is just fine to use. Dip The navel & cord and all 4 hooves. Molasses is just fine. All Karo Syrup is, is white corn syrup. If the umbilucal(sp?) cord is to long, such as touching the ground while they are standing, you need to trim it to about 1 inch or so long. Yes, untie it after cutting. I've never tied mine though. If the cord is only about 2 inches long, just leave it, it will dry up pretty quickly. But make sure you dip the entire cord in the iodine. Keep us posted. Umm Ya i have bottles, rags, feed bags, etc I don't have a 7% iodone but was told a 6% will do. I don't even know what karo syrup is i usely give the mom's a warm water with mollsess in it they drink it and do very good i think thats what Karo syrup is right?? I live in Canada and never heard of Karo syrup. I have been going in on her all day and most of the night (untill 3:00am ) but that has to come to a end school starts back up on monday so i was hoping so will go tomorrow! Ok i don't know what they mean when the cord is way to long and trim it to 1 inch but when you tie it off after you cut do you take the string off? or leave it! I never had to do that with my first kid last year! Well i will keep every one posted! |

Keep a close eye on her. When they start sinking in the sides and at the base of the tail they are very close to kidding. Her eating habit sounds normal. Are you prepared for kids? Such as having a kidding bucket all set up with rags, iodine, karo syrup for the mom, and so forth? I always give my moms warm water with karo syrup in it right after kidding. This gives thier system and extra boost of energy by helping replace the sugar they lost during kidding. Keep us posted. Cheryl CPR Boer Goats 39 Strong and Growing |
