Oh man I finally got to use the milker and I LOVE IT! I milked out 8 oz out of my pygmy doe on one side. Happily she had twins but by 2 days old we figured out one wasnt doing well and sadly found he had a cleft palate. We had him put down and this doe has tons of milk and only one baby to drink it all so I decided to milk her on the one side that the doeling won't use hoping as she grows she decides she likes both sides. Thank you Maggie you are a life savor oh no a hand savor. LOL |

Maggie and others i just wanted to let you know i told a friend about Maggies milker and they are goning to take back the one they got for 380.00! The E-Z milker and think that 380.00 is way to much to milk 1 saanen! This just shows how goat farmers are not in it for the money! (well some of us!) The E-Z milker is for horses and not for goats our friends used a E-Z milker for a year and then the doe they were milking her teat turned black and fell off (I know i would want that)!!!! |

No mine only does one side at a time. It takes 2 hands to attach it and it would involve too many valves and hoses to keep one teat cup on while you tried to attach the other. As milk flows (and it does under vacuum) the suction would be released even if you have a valve on the line. Most does also finish milking out on one side before the other too, so it would mean having to stop again and work all kinds of valves to remove one teat cup and resume milking again. Still with mine you get about 1/2 ounce with each pump, much more than you get with one squeeze by regular handmilking so it goes faster and easier even doing one side at the time. Hey I still have not gotten my milker and am thinking of ordering one when my 3 nubians are done kidding! they have big teats but one i have kicks and you can only milk one side at a time and can't keep a pail under her so im going to get one and use it and don't have to worry about loosing all my milk! Do you have one that can milk 2 teats at a time that would be great for people like me with dairy does and have to spend alot of time milking gallons of milk! I can't wait to have them all kid so i have milk and a milker!!! |

maggie, you are right, their container for the milk was small. i have full size goats-and when we are milking full time one gives almost a gallon. that would totally be a pain to have to empty the container every few minutes. i am glad it is doing so well for you! |

Thanks Lynn I am glad you are pleased! Response has been very good and we mail out about 2 milkers a day right now. Some people see being able to milk into a container of their choice as a plus. The other milker with the attached container only holds about 12 ounces. Even my pygmies milk more than that. Having to stop so often to empty the collection bottle gets to be a hassle for some. just wanted everyone to know, that i recieved my milker from maggie and i got to try it yesterday. it works wonderful!! there is another similar milker on the web-but it is more complicated and pricey-$200!!the only plus was it had a closed container for the milk to be drawn into. maggie, i am very pleased. i have full size dairy goats-lamancha and togenberg, and the large cup worked great. this will make it sooo much easier to go out and milk every day and to get help from my kids and when i want to go on vacation, to know that my girls will get milked out and properly. the video was extra helpful for us that are visual. thanks!! |

Testing is not required even in commercial dairy herds. Many many people drink their goats' milk. If you are concerned, pasteurize! All this means is heating the milk to 165 degrees (not even close to boiling, holding it there for 30 seconds and chilling it down fast in a sink of ice water. There are several home pasteurizers that do this automatically, many for sale quite inexpensively on eBay. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I just watched the video and I am impressed. While I raise Pygmies and Nigerians, I have NEVER milked them. I have considered it. However, I have never had my herd tested for disease. I have never had an evident serious or contagious disease. I just assumed that I shouldn't drink the milk without testing. Is this true? |
