It is not too late to give BoSe but the kids may not get the full effect, still better than waiting, I think. The dosage is 1 cc per 40 pounds. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie, the doe is still eating, but walking slow and looks to be still swollen somewhat. I am still giving her the C.M.P.K. gel once a day. Hopefully this will prevent any further problems. Question: I always give my pregnant does their CD/T shot 3 - 4 weeks before kidding, but she has not had a Bo-Se shot. Is it too late in her pregnancy to give her the bo-se? Approx. 2 1/2 to 3 weeks from kidding? Dosage? 1 cc per 40 pounds? Thanks for all your help; and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! |

One good article I referenced says to give 1 ounce (30 cc) for each dose to a standard sized goat. For a goat with obvious hypocalcemia (off feed, off hay, weak and/or down) to give it every 2 hours until they are back on feed along with 1 to 2 ounces of straight propylene glycol to make up for the nutrition (energy) she has lost from being off feed. Here is the article: http://kinne.net/hypocal2.htm The swelling in the legs just MIGHT BE a very early sign. Theresa's goat is not off feed at this time. It can't hurt to give some CMPK to see if it helps in Theresa's case. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

What is the dosage for CMPK? I notice that Jeffers has it in a tube but it looks like a tube that requires a "gun" as opposed to the Probiotics tubes that have push injectors. Is that true? |

Try it once or twice a day and see if it helps. She certainly isn't in dire trouble yet, and it may not be hypocalcemia at all. Keep a close eye... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thanks Maggie, I won't change her feed then. Is one time a day enough for the C.M.P.K? or should I give it more often? |

I would go ahead and start treating for hypocalcemia. The CMPK has propylene glycol in it. Check her lower inner eyelids too, this could be edema from being anemic. She is getting PLENTY of high quality feed, don't change anything right now. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a nanny due to kid in 3 weeks. She walks VERY slow, and looks like her back legs may be swollen some, I know she is uncomfortable on them, because when she is at the feed trough and the hay rack, she bounces back and forth on them, as though they are hurting her somewhat. Could this be a beginning of hypocalcemia or ketosis? She is still eating ok, for now. She gets about a cup of feed morning and evening, clover and alfalfa mixed hay, free choice sweetlix minerals. She also gets some alfalfa cubes that I had bought for one of my senior nannies for a snack morning and evening. I should probably up her feed, because I am thinking she is full of kids. At least triplets, possibly. Would it be ok to go ahead and give her C.M.P.K. and propelyn glycol (?, spelling) just to get ahead of a real disaster? Thanks for your help. |
