They can heal very fast, it is essential if you are a wild animal, its heal or die. They never cease to amaze me when they do this!

This is amazing. My wether would not put any weight on his leg for 2 full days and hopped everywhere he went. On Monday he just started to put his foot down and today he acts as though he was never injured. I checked his hooves and between the toes and never found anything. He is all better, just a little bit tender when he makes a turn on his hurt leg. Talk about a fast healer. This started on Friday morning and ran it's very short course (thank goodness) and all is well. Thanks, I really don't know what I would do without you here to lend a hand.

Likely he slipped and injured his fetlock joint (ankle). It is possibly broken and it could take several weeks to heal, but they nearly all do heal quite well. I have had goats break legs and heal up fine with very little done by me.

I would wrap it in vetwrap for support, not too tight but firmly. Be sure not to press the two toes too tightly together, just support the fetlock joint. I would give banamine by SQ injection about 2 cc once or twice a day for 3 to 4 days. Or you can give liquid children's motrin at 1 cc per 10 pounds or so every 6 hours as needed. Giving banamine by injection does help protect the digestive tract somewhat, giving it by mouth is not recommended for ruminants.

Check the hoof and the area just above the hoof at the hair line for any tender spots indicating an abscess or a wound or hoof rot. Trim the hoof well, check between the toes for redness, swelling. Any of these conditions can cause severe lameness and swelling and make it look like a joint injury or break.

This has been such a bad years for our goats. My 4 year old wether was limping on Friday and now he will put no weight on his right front leg and he hops all over the place only putting weight on it in deep straw bedding and he compromises by kneeling to eat and graze. His ankle is slightly swollen. I think it could be broken or very bruised. Is it possible that since the weather has suddenly changed from hot and dry to wet and chilly to be severe arthritis? What I could do to relieve some of his pain? I have heard a number of products to use, but what would be the best to use and cause the least amount of disruption to his digestive tract? I would take him to the vet, but that is virtually impossible since he is so hard to handle and weighs in at over 230 lbs. I am afraid it would do more damage trying to get him there and my vet does not make farm calls for goats. If it would be broken how long does it take to heal and would it ever heal? while he is laying down I checked for any strange deformations and can't feel any. He does allow me to bend his ankle also when he is down, so again I am not totally sure it is broken.
