Our goat got into some asphalt we were using to coat posts with. He is about 10 weeks old, was fine yesterday but is vomiting alot today. He had some on his lips, but I didn't think he could have eaten much off of the posts. He is a child's pet, please help! |

Christina, I am relatively new to goats, but until some one with more experience can answer you on the goat world website the is an article on poisinous plants and you may want to look at the antidotes for poisin in that section. I hope he will be ok. |

Dear Christina, I would definitely start him on the plant poisoning antidote and be sure he is drinking alot or drench (give by mouth) pedialyte or a calf electrolyte solution. The vomiting causes dehydration and electrolyte inbalance and this is what kills. Young goat without much body mass are especially vulnerable. You may also want to try giving pepto bismol (give the child dose) to coat the stomach and digestive system. are If you can get him to a vet it may help alot too. They can put him on IV fluids and offer much better support therapy. Your goat was likely looking for minerals if he was licking tar. Feel free to contact me privately, I am one of the capri medics. |
