Pam, The first thing you should do if you buy young goats at a sale is be prepared to deal with any kind of illness,disease,and/or parasite known to goats. I would recommend you find a reputable breeder and go that way. 20 years ago when I wanted goats. I went to sales bought the cutest little baby brought it home and it died, the next weekend did the same thing....same outcome. I knew very little about goats then. Most people take their worst animals there...ie....sick, parasite infested,so on.. If you still decide to get one there make sure you quarinetine them. Deworm, be prepared to treat coccidia, give a CD&T vaccine, if you get a bottle baby get some good milk replacer make sure it doesn't have soy in it, or you can use the recipe for the replacer on the articles page. I can tell you through experience you may find one or two decent goats that go through the sale but you really need to know what you are looking at. I would stronly suggest buying from an individual. Good Luck, Dawn |
