For treating polio you would give 1 cc of the fortified B Complex per 20 pounds every 6 hours for the first 24 hours then twice a day for 5 to 7 days. I would give a probiotic too, can't hurt. His temp is high normal. Stick with hay for now and plenty of fresh water. |

Hi Maggie, thanks, The wether is still eating, with no real signs of bloat. Stool looked good, and he is urinating. He seems to want to be up in the hind end on elbows in the front. I haven't seen the eyes twitching though. He is not showing alot of improvment, but not getting any worse either. He hasn't cried out today except when I took his temp again. It is still at 103. Is there anything I should be doing other than the thiamine? How much should I be giving him, and how often? Should I give probios? |

Oops missed this post before I answered the other one, so I get it now which goat we are talking about. Is this wether urinating? The fortified B complex has as much thiamin as the thiamin from the vet, save your money...If he is eating and has no temp right now it is not listeria. Look at his eyes, if they are darting or twitching it is polio. Check for bloat too. |

Hi Maggie, boy when it rains it pours, Maybe because I was so wrapped up in dealing with this buck, I missed my own. Had a goat hollering, so went to see what was going on, I had a wether in the barn by himself. Very unsteady on his back legs. Got him in the sick pen, gave him poly serum, because my thermometer was over where the buck is, got temp. 102 I am suspecting polio. I gave 6cc fortified B complex. I will get thaimin from the vet in the morning. With no temp, should I go ahead and give Pen. just in case it is listerosis or wait? There is no scours and he is eating some hay. Thanks so much, Violet |
