Morning update on Ray Ray. He is up, walking his Ray Ray strut and courting the girls! Tail is up and across his back. Wonderful to have him back! Praise God for answered prayer. Thank you Maggie and Dr. Green for your help!
An aside, due to his age, I'm going to have Dr. Green also check his teeth to see if they may need attention, like filing.

The discharge is fine probably a bit of irritation with the increased air flow. Since it is clear it isn't anything to worry about. Same for the coughing. He is just getting used to being able to breathe again.

YES! He's a wonderful vet and he truly cares about his patients. Ray Ray is now showing some resistance to my treating- good sign but bad for me.
Maggie, I still have a clear nasal discharge and some snuffing. He's producing an active cough once in awhile. Today is to be his last dexamethasone shot (day 4). I won't be able to get in touch with Dr. Green until Monday with the weekend coming up. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Just think, on Monday, I was getting prepared to bury my dear friend! Look at him now! God does answer prayer and will help us get the help we need- like you and Dr. Green! Thanks!

Maggie,
Ray Ray was strong enough to go to Dr. Green yesterday. He has large strongids (I'd just dewormed him with Ivermectin, thinking that maybe the problem was lungworms). One of Dr. Green's strengths is as a diagnostician. Ray Ray's nostrils were collapsing due to the weight of the sagging skin on his nose! He put in some temperary sutures for a "nose tuck" to open his nostrils. He did say that this may not be the only problem, but wouldn't it be wonderful if something so simple was the problem for Ray Ray! This has made a tremendous difference! He is up and walking. He is now interested in eating (It's hard to eat when you can't breathe through your nose). He's drinking water, lots of water.
Treatment now is- continue with the dexamethasone for 2 more days, penicillin for 5 days, Valbazen for worms for 3 days. I also gave him Goat Serum SQ to boost his immune system. Dr. Green's concern with the dexamethaxone is that this will suppress his immune system. The plan is that if the "nose tuck" works, then he'll have surgery to remove this excess skin. This may be a first- rhinoplasty for a goat!

The variation in his temp is fairly normal. It is less than a degree. Most animals and humans too will have variations in their body temp over the course of a day even from hour to hour.

Maggie, Ray Ray is getting better each time I care for him. He drank water on his own today and took in about 3 qts. He is urinating freely and the color is golden. He is producing a pelleted clump stool. He does not seem to be eating any solid food yet, but will now chew what I syringe in. He has gotten up twice on his own that I am aware of. He prefers to stand, but does not want to walk. His breathing no longer sounds wet. His nostrils are still collapsing on inhalation but his drawing in is less severe. The dexamethasone seems to be helping. Dr. Green said that the Banamine probably helped, but was not strong enough for what he needed. With all this good forward track, I am concerned that his temp is now 100.9 Would the dexamethasone effect his temp? Maggie, thank you so much for your help. You and Barbara Howard (and others too)have come to my rescue so many times. I don't know what I would do without you and this forum. thanks. I am hoping that Ray Ray will be strong enough to transport to the vet tomorrow. It's a 45 minute ride.

That sounds like forward progress. His temp is MUCH better! Keep up the good work. I have my fingers crossed.

Maggie,
I called our vet, he can't come today but will try to come tomorrow. He gave me dexamethasone at 5 cc for 3 days and to continue with the Nuflor starting tomorrow. I got him standing for several hours today which helped his breathing. His temperature is now 101.6. He took in the bran gruel I made this morning and tonight at a pint each time. He also took electrolytes in water at about 3 cups at each presentation in the morning, noon, this evening.
I've also given him 15 cc SQ of of immunoglobin.

His temp indicates his digestive system has shut down and he is in shock. Please try to get a vet out or him into a vet.
