Maggie, What is sort of sad is the lady takes excellent care of her horses even had my Dad chiropractor them. You know I had him chiropractor one of our goats that didn't walk correctly and it worked great. I went out to check on him he does need wormed and the swelling has went down dramatically. Sort of add though the skin wasn't broke under the collar. Thanks Dawn |

If he is acting fine he doesn't have the infection. It kills within a day or so and the animal is VERY VERY sick (on further research). If he is wormy (and I deworm all new goats as the stress of moving makes dormant worms active) deworm with Ivermectin Injectable for Cattle at 1 cc per 25 pounds for 2 days in a row. Repeat in 2 weeks. If the collar was tight at all it may take some time for the swelling to go down. This happens to dogs fairly often. The area under the collar will have to heal and normal blood flow return. I'll bet he thinks he has died and gone to heaven! Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie, It seemed to me that the swelling was above and below the collar. He is not sick acting. He was thrilled to et here and have hay and alittle grain. She had him staked and loves it that he has a place to roam. I will check his lids in the am....it is pouring here. Can you give me an idea of what to do if he is not wormy? And what to give if he is? What about this clostridial infection how do I treat that? Thank you so much Dawn |

What do his inner eyelids look like? Goats can also get a clostridial infection in the skin of their heads. Very nasty and hard to treat, usually fatal very quickly. Is he sick otherwise? Painful? Was most or all of the swelling above the collar? The tight collar may be part of his problem especially if he is anemic too. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie, We just "rescued" a boer buck that is about 8 months old. He was an only goat on this horse farm and has not been around another goat in months. Well his face and neck are swollen really big! They had a collar on him and it was pretty tight do you think that might have been the problem? He looks to be in good general health. I have looked at the pictures of bottle jaw and milk goiters I don't really think that is what it is because he is extremely swollen. I am not real sure what to make of this. THanks Dawn |
