Thanks, Maggie I thought about milk fever, but her temp wasn't low, no other signs, but as long as it doesn't hurt to treat at the same time, I will go ahead and treat for it, too. One final question: will any of this be harmful to the doeling (2-3 months)? I would hate to separate them right now; this is a new environment for them, and she doesn't have any other kids to play with. The other does are running with our buck. Besides they are kind of pushy with her (the doeling). She is a lot prettier than they are, and I think they have it in for her - not really, they are all beautiful. Thanks again for all the help form you Capri Medics and other knowledgeble goat people out there. Where the heck would we be without you? Clark |

Yes you can give a shot of BoSe and start giving thiamin too at the same time. Treat for meningeal worm too give the ivermectin for 2 to 3 days by SQ injection and then give 3 to 5 days of Safeguard orally at 5 times the cattle dose. You might want to give her CMPK (this is an oral gel or liquid given for cattle with milk fever or ketosis, most feedstorse carry something like it) too in case she has hypocalcemia (milk fever). Use about 1/3 the cattle dose 3 times a day. None of these can hurt. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I am also considering that it may be mennigeal worms, but she has been wormed regularly. Should I go ahead and use Ivermectin for Cattle and give it SQ? It can't hurt to treat for all three possibilities, can it? |

I have a 2-year old Boer doe with a 2-month old doeling at her side. She has a normal temp. (102.7)and is nursing, eating, drinking, defecating and urinating well. The problem is that in the last 24-36 hours she has had problems with her hind quarters. She seems weak and staggers somewhat. She is not twitching her tail and it wants to drop to her right side. She also is leaning to the right. She seems very alert and not in pain. I don't see any type of injury. I believe I am dealing with either White Muscle Disease or Polio. The vets around here (Charleston, WV) are nearly useless. What do you recommend for immediate treatment. Is it okay to treat with Bo-Se and Thiamine at the same time? Any help is greatly appreciated. |
