He likely has a severe worm load. Look at his lower inner eyelids, they should be bright rosy to salmon pink. If they are light pink to white he is anemic from worms. Check all of the other goats. Many goats can be very anemic with a severe worm load and never show other symptoms such as diarrhea or bottle jaw. Deworm as needed. Ivermectin is very safe even at 25 times this dose, you MUST be ABSOLUTELY sure to give enough. DO NOT UNDERDOSE!!! This only makes resistant parasites. I recommend deworming with Ivermectin Injectable for Cattle giving 1 cc per 25 to 30 pounds, but give it ORALLY, for 2 days and repeat in 2 weeks. You can give Pepto Bismol or Kaopectate to help with the diarrhea. Give that adult dose every 4 to 6 hours. The Pepto or kaopectate WILL NOT help the cause of the diarrhea it will only treat the symptom in the short term. You can give Goat Nutridrench, RedCell for horses (use half the horse dose) or Geritol Liquid (use the adult dose) once or twice a day for a couple of weeks to help restore the iron in his blood. Help please, 4 year old nub/boer mix buck has severe brown watery diarrhea. No symptoms in other goats. Is eating and drinking. No change in food, is pasture fed only with mineral block, no grain. Sorry I posted this originally in old thread, not a whiz on computers. Thanks. |
