Hi Carlene I emailed you privately. This is a pretty common occurance after shows. If you can make your pens such that the goats avoid nose to nose contact with the goats in the next pen, it may help. I seldom take any stock under 10 months old to a show. They just don't have strong enough immune systems before that. Lots of people also give an immune booster such as Goat Serum about a week before the show right up through the show to hopefully help prevent this. I don't take my goats for walks around show grounds and I am pretty careful about allowing petting or feeding (those people have touched EVERY animal within reach and bring all of those germs straight to your pen....)

I personally don't like to use LA 200 (oxytet) or penicillin for respiratory infections, there is too much resistance. I have never had very good results using them for pneumonia (for some other thing yes, but not respiratory disease). But if that is what you have then give the oxytet every day once a day at 1 ccper 30 pounds by SQ injection for 5 days. I prefer Naxcel (vet prescription only) at 1 cc per 50 pounds twice a day by SQ injction for 5 days. Or you can use Tylan 200 (OTC drug) at 1 cc per 20 pounds by SQ injection once a day for 5 days.

Hi
We went to a show about ten days ago. Right after the show, we started coughing for the first time in 6 months.!!! Now I have two 5 mo. old bucks with temps! 106 degrees ... I started LA 200 is that what you would do?
thanks
carlene
