Yep chiggers and ticks, and you are right they really itch. Bet it gets better after the first or second good freeze. But I'm in no hurry for cold weather.

Yea I have been finding seed ticks on me after going outside and boy do they itch. Wet, man have we been wet, it is September and our grass has been green and lush all season, not a brown spot to be found.

Mine have been a bit plagued by chiggfers at this time of year too (for that matter so have I). I suspect this too shall pass. The dew rot and many of the other staph infections and such respond very well to evey other day SQ injections of LA 200. The wet and damp have made these pretty prevalent this year too.

Copper level for sweetlix is 1750.

I checked everyone out and the buck is the only one with dry peeling skin. Everyone is getting their winter coat. No sore or anything else on anyone. Well after all that I had to drop my son off at a friends and they have 7 goats. I stood at the fence for about 15 min and watched how they behave and to my surprise they scratch and nibble at themselves just as mine do. Well maybe I just am worked up over the dew rot the buck had on his testicles and the same fungus around a does hooves and the staph infection another doe had on her tail. I think I need to step back and breath. The mineral I am feeding seems to meet all needs and I do feed alfalfa pellet and orchard grass hay. They also get a small amount of grain in the morning. I think I have gotten paranoid and over done their skin so I am going to let them be and see what happens.
thanks

Try adding some sunflower seeds to their grain. Many people who have done this said their goats skin and coats never looked better.

What is the copper level on the Sweetlix? Copper deficiency can cause poor skin and too much zinc blocks copper. Is your water well water? Is it very hard? Does it leave a white residue (likely calcium) or red stains (iron)? Hard water can affect how the goat utilize mineral supplements.

OK now if Sweetlix has 1.25% Zinc and it says for every 0.1% is 1000ppm then that is alot of zinc. Golden Blend only has 0.40% zinc.

Still sounds like a zinc deficiency to me. I had a frined go through all of this and he finally threw up his hands in disgust and stopped doing anything. The goat was better in a few weeks. If could be all teh dusting, drugs, bathing and fussing has just simply dried out the skin and made them itch.

Well long story short. Goats have been itching and biting at themselves and have white flaky pealing skin. There are no lice! I have dusted weekly, given ivomec shots for 5 weeks, given flea baths and dips. In the barn I have sprayed the wall and dusted the dirt floors with sevins dust. I am going to lose my mind over this. Their hair looks good no sores just lots of flaking and peeling skin. Tonight I noticed the bucks belly looks like it is peeling skin. No bald spots or thin hair just one spot on the bucks side that looks like I clipped the hair short. They eat Orchard grass hay, alfalfa pellets and a grain mix with oats, barly, corn, boss and dumor goat pellets. I have been adding probiotics daily during this and an immune boosing loose herb from Molly's herbs. They also have sweetlix meat maker minerals and baking soda free choice. Should I try the pour on Ivomec. Help before I lose my mind.
