Well I will update now that someone else has posted. Katie started letting kacie nurse after about 2 days and she is still letting her nurse. I think Katie was actually in heat herself too and when they both settled down nursing resumed. Alexander Cripps Katie and Kacie are pygmies and will never weigh 80 lbs unless maybe pregnant and carrying triplets. Kacie is only 4 months old and no where near age for breeding. But all is well now with dam and daughter. | ||

try milking her i know her teats must be hard but milk her out today and the next day wean her from milking in 2 weeks and beware they will and can mate even in different pens if shes 80 pounds let her in with him!!!!! | ||

Well I wish they would come on and do my fencing cause I have it planned out with 3 areas and between the bucks and young does will be a 30 foot area. The pen beside the bucks will be the maturnity pen for pregnant does and untill young does are 3 months old then they will go into the large pasture away from buck pen till 1.5 years old. I checked katies udder this morning and it seemed fine but very full, tight and she still didnt want kacie to nurse so I held her and let her nurse off a little. She is being kinda rough with kacie. I guess she is wanting to wean her but I don't have any other little one to put kacie with. I feel so sorry for kacie she is in heat and moma wont let her nurse and she is trying to. It is raining today so all goats are inside so the buck can't see kacie. | ||

Oh boy is she preoccupied. she is calling the buck and pacing the fence line. flagging that tail and rubbing her butt on the fence. I feel sorry for her, she is so young and wants the buck and she aint getting him. Maybe next fall! I will check her in the morning it is dark now. Thanks! | ||

Check the udder for mastitis. Is it hot? Milk out a few streams into a cup to be sure it looks like milk, not stringy, clumpy or bloody. No they don't stop nursing the kid just because she is coming into heat. But it could be that the kid is preoccupied with other things today and not wanting to nurse. Katies doeling is now 3 months old and showing strong signs of coming into her first heat. Today katie wont let kacie nurse and her bag is big and tight. Whats up? I had hoped she would nurse her doeling longer but did katies doeling coming into heat cause this abrupt nurse strike. Katie is a pygmy and this is her first kid. |
