I just cut the grain and quit milking. The pressure of the milk makes the milk glands stop producing. If they appear to be producing less they are drying up on their own. Many milk goats will do that as the breeding season starts.

When we got our goats the lady was only milking them every other day. They seem to be producing less milk now than they did then, I just wanted to make sure we were drying them up the right way...I guess we could start milking them every third day???

Decreasing their grain ration at first will help them dry quicker...

Start by milking out half of each side twice a day, then after you notice they are supplying less try only milking half once a day then after a decrease go to half every other day and so on until they are dry. Hope this helps.

I wanted to know the easiest, on the goat, to start drying up my milk goats. I have a few small nannies that I want to gain a little weight before it is time to breed them. I do not want my girls to get sick from not drying them up the best way. I am new to milking goats and I am afraid to stop cold turkey on them! Thanks
