Lovely! I like good news. Hope he is back bouncing around very soon. Give him some probiotics or some yogurt to help replenish those digestive microbes. They take a big hit with such a high fever and the antibiotics. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

This little guy is doing MUCH better. He hasn't had any fever for days, is finally eating a little grain and hay, is drinking good. His breathing seems normal as well. Although he does seem lonely and depressed, I think I need to wait at least another day or two to put him back with the others. He is still eating very slowly (and not as much as usual) so I don't want him to have to compete for food just yet. Thank you to everyone who helped me out giving me advise. You most likely helped me save this little guys life! |

Thank you Maggie for the advice, however, I have struck out. Neither vet in this area has Naxcel or Nuflor. I also checked both feed stores and neither has the Tylan 200! This is a lesson for me to have these things on hand. Although I have been very fortunate and not needed anything like this in a very, very long time. I've continued with the Pen G. The little buck was running a bit of a fever (105.4) last evening, but thankfully not this morning. He is still not eating grain, only nibbling hay. His breathing does not seem quite as labored and fast. He has enough energy to run from me when he sees me coming with those syringes! Poor little guy. Thanks again for your help. You are appreciated!!! |

See if the vet has Naxcel, you can give that at 1 cc per 50 pounds once or twice a day by SQ injection. Both Nuflor and Naxcel are prescription. Tylan 200 works well too and some feed stores carry it. The dose for that is 1 cc per 30 pounds (I think once a day but check the fiascofarm.com website meds page) by SQ injection. Tylan is not a prescription drug. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thank you Barbara! That is what I suspected, but this is my first case so wasn't sure. We really do not have a vet around this area that treats goats. I called the local vet anyway to request some Nuflor and they do not keep it. Is it by prescription? Also would any of the other antibiotics found at the feed store (oxi, LA200, etc.) be better than the Pen g? Again thank you so much for the advice! |

The little guy has Pnuemonia the Penicillin might work to up the dose to 4cc every 8 hours sq but Nuflor would be better 1cc/25 lbs sq. you will need to follow the antibiotic therapy for 5 days. Keep up the Poly Serum 5cc sq and 5cc orally every day. On the temp give the children's liquid Motrin 2cc/10 lbs orally every 4 hours as needed for temp and pain. Also give the vitamin b 5cc sq twice a day for 5 days. If you need to call feel free 606-522-3388 or jamesa@mrtc.com Barbara Howard Capri-Medic jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

Thank you so much for the advice! I only had children's Ibuprofen "cold" so I gave him that. It just has a little something extra for a stuffy nose........hopefully that is okay. I will get regular stuff for next dose. I also have aspirin, children's and regular. Do you think I could use either of those? I had already given B complex as well. He is drinking some and I even saw him tasting a bit of hay. He was standing up as well when I got to him. Unfortunately, his temp is up to 107.7 now. I moved him to a cooler place. Hopefully that will help as well. Did you find out what was wrong with your buck? How often should I give the pen? He is smaller than yours. I don't have a weight yet, but he probably only about 25-30 lbs. Should I still give the 2CC dose again next time? I really appreciate you getting back to me. That was so helpful. I can't believe I didn't think of it! If you or anyone else can think of anything that I can be doing for this little guy, please don't hesitate. |

Get some children's fever reducer in him NOW! Anything to bring the fever down !!!!!!!! I went by wight on bottle for the kids (don't know if that is right) but at this point he needs something!!!!!! Call one of the capri medics their phone number are listed under capri medics on the home page if concerned and unsure-Call NOW! We just had the same problem last night with our boer buck who weighs around 50-65 lbs. and this morning so I'll tell you our story and what we did- NOT saying it's exactly what you should do but it seems to be helping. Definately get some fever reducer quickly or he will die. We started with a temp of 106.2 we gave 2cc penicillin, 1/2 banamine, and approx. 5 cc motrin and 2cc vitamin B, 6cc nutradrench. His fever fell to about 103.5 in about 1-2 hours and went to eating something and then this morning his temp was 101.9 moved to separate pen as well. This morning gave another 2cc pen., 1/2cc banamine, 2cc vitamin B, 6cc more of nutridrench and also drenched some molasses and water with nutridrench and just some plain water as well. Seems to be doing better, couldn't even lift head this morning and is now laying with head up and temp 102.5. Cindy

My little buck seemed okay yesterday evening. However, this morning he did not come up to eat. I immediately moved him to a small isolated pen and gave him 6cc SQ of goat syrum. Once I took his temp a short time later and realized he had a fever I gave him 2CC pen g SQ. I wasn't sure of the dosage and hope that is okay. He also has labored, rapid breathing. Is this pneumonia? Is there anything else I can do for him. Any advice would be most appreciated. |
