Give banamine at 0.1 cc per 10 pounds by SQ injection once or twice a day for 3 days if needed for pain. Bet he has a heck of a sinus headache and maybe a sore throat from the drainage from the sinus. He will be better soon.

sorry, I missed your post about banamine. I do have banmine. I put on triple antibiotic ointment and it seemed to melt down into the hole. Later I checked on him and he still seems ok and the drainage seems to have slowed down and yes he does seem painful and turns his head away from his playmate to keep from being bumped.

You might give some liquid children's motrin cold formula too. 1 cc per 10 pounds every 4 to 6 hours. This might also help with pain and the drainage.

I wouldn't pour peroxide in, it will enter the sinus and it would bubble causing more pressure. The dosage for penicillin is 1 cc per 15 to 20 pounds, by SQ injection twice a day for at least 5 days. You could rinse with a weak saline solution (about 1-2 teaspoons salt to a pint of water or plain water.

His temp was fine, but now the drainage is smelling bad and is getting thicker. I was wondering if pouring peroxide into the opening would be dangerous to the goat since it may enter the sinus or if just using a topical oinment as you said before would be enough? What would the dosage of penicilin be?

Penicillin is usually a good all around choice. Give 1 cc per 15 to 20 pounds by SQ injection for 5 days. Likely he is just a bit painful today and that is all. Pain management may be all he needs. I prefer banamine for pain management in goats, do you have any?

I am going to check his temp. If needed what anitbiotic would be best? I have some penicilin on hand.

Take his temperature. If he has a fever start him on antibiotics. The one shot the vet gave was more for you than for him, for antibiotics to be effective they have to be continued for about a week...Normal temp for goats is 101.5 to 103.5, most goats are about 102 or so. A bit of drainage is normal especially if the dehorning opened the sinus cavity. You might try giving a liquid children's cold medicine at 1 cc per 10 pounds. The affected sinus may be full of fluid and causing a sinus headache. Or just give a liquid children's motrin at the same dose for pain relief. You can give either every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

I usually use a mild antibiotic ointment such as neosporin on these sites, the gooey stuff seems to keep the flies away and it doesn't seem to irritate as much as a fly repellent.

My 5 month old was dehorned last Thursday, since his original disbudding did not take. One of the horn areas where it was burned off seemed fine until today. It is draining a lot of clear fluid from a tiny hole (I am presuming it is leading to his sinus cavity.) that was left in his head from the removal site and that seems to where where it is coming from. He is still eating, but is acting a little depressed. Is there a problem or is this normal? I don't want to wait until he stops eating and becomes ill from an infection. is there is something I should be doing now to get him through this before it gets bad. Can I rinse the area with peroxide or something else? I did use fly wound ointment on it on Thursday to keep flys away. After the vet did the dehorning she gave him an antibiotic injection.
