Give the probios at least once a day for the entire time he is on any other medications. You can't overdose on probios and antibiotic treatment kills the digestive microbes. Good to hear he is feeling better.

Goats going off grain is often an indication of worms. Have the other one tested. A goat with scours will have an artifically low worm egg count due to the feces being diluted. Look at the other goat's lower inner eyelid for color...

We brought Bulldog home yesterday. He still has some scouring but his appetite is better- eating hay, grazing and drinking water. His behavior is more like him. He is receiving 10cc probios paste 2x per day for another day and 5cc penicillin for the next 5 days. Fecal showed some strongids and no coccidia. Plan to treat for worms in about a week or so to give his system time to recover from the sour digestive tract.
We have another one of our young bucks with the same kind of scours but his behavior is unchanged except he won't eat grain. I can't determine what they are getting into to cause scouring. I plan to keep a close watch on him and treat like we are with Bulldog.

Hi,
Has Bulldog been treated for Cocci that causes some bloody scours also I am glad he is ruminating some that low body temp alerts you to the fact that there is a ruminal problem and that can kill really quickly.
Glad to hear he is doing better please keep us updated on Bulldog and as always feel free to call anytime 606-522-3388 day or night.

Bulldog report. Yesterday, his temperature was 103. He was scouring off and on throughout the day. Did drink water but preferred to be by himself. His scours had some small amounts of bright red blood. I gave him some kaolin which did quiet his stomach. I contacted our vet and took him this morning to his clinic.
I just got off the phone with Dr. Green. Bulldog has a gastrointestinal problem. He is drinking water, eating hay and has shown some cudding. He's being treated with probios and was given penicillin just to be sure that there is no infection. Bulldog will stay with Dr. Green tonight for observation to be sure that he is OK to come home.
Thank you for your help and advice. I have come to rely on you for guidance. I read all the 911s to learn how to better care for my precious "kids" that I love so dearly. thank you again and may God bless you!

Most mail order livestock supply companies carry it. It is sometimes out of stock. I get mine from Jeffers or Valley Vet. I get ALL of my stuff mail order if possible that way I pay the price the feedstore pays not the price they mark it up to (the mark up is often 100 to 150% of the "wholesale" price...).

His temp is low, please be sure you are inserting the thermometer about 2 inches. Temp is usually lower in the morning but not below the noraml range, which his still is lower than normal. This still indicates some digestive upset but it can take a day or two for him to feel more himselfa nd get his system back up to normal. But it does sound like he is on the mend. I would give another CD antitoxin injection.

7AM- Bulldog has stopped scouring. His temperature is 100.9 He is nibbling on leaves. He saw me lean over and gave me a butt! Good sign. He saw me give a bottle baby a bottle and wanted one too! I gave him half a bottle(4 oz) with porbiotics in it. he loved it and wanted more! Didn't give it too him though, thought it might be too much. Seems to be more like himself. I'll continue monitoring and will report back. Should I give him another CD antitoxin injection? His temp is low but wouldn't this be expected for first thing in the morning?

one last note before I go to bed. With alot of resistance from him, I did give him a SQ 15cc injection of the CD antitoxin to be safe. I just checked on him, he is nibbling on a few leaves from a pecan tree. I hope that this is a good sign.
I'll check his temperature in the morning and will report how he is doing.
