How much Ivermectin did you give? Are you sure you estimated the weight correctly? The dose for ivermectin is 3 times the horse or cattle dose by weight givne orally to the goats. A Safeguard mineral block won't work with goats as it is made at the dose for cattle (no matter what it is labeled at) and goats won't eat as much of it as a cow would. Safeguard has a high level of resisitance to it too since it has been used (and abused) about the longest of any dewormer. You can try cydectin pouron given orally at 1 cc per 18 to 20 pounds. Be sure to give enough, most dewormers have a good margin of safely, it is much better to go over than under the correct dose.

These goats do need some sort of mineral supplement, Sweetlix makes a good one with protein for goats on forage. Adequate copper goes a long way towards making a goat resistant to parasites. Boer goats and boer crosses seem especially susceptible to worms. They didn't need resistacne to worms in their native country and so as a breed did not develop it.

A controlled burn might help control parasites.

I bought some goats from the auction about a month ago. I wormed them with Ivormec and turned them out. Since turning them out 4 have died and several others are sick. I am pretty sure it is worms from their symptoms. I have wormed the weaker ones two more times but they don't seem to be getting any better. The land I put them on was virgin land so I don't think they are getting more worms from the pasture. What is the best treatment for resistant worms? Was wondering if I could put a safe guard mineral block in with them. They are in a wooded area and not easily caught. Also, for future reference will a controlled burn work for cleaning a pasture of parasites.
Thank you,
Barrett Chandley
