Do check the label of the mineral, many say to not offer any other source of salt. It is the salt that makes the goats eat the mineral mix and get the minerals they need along with the salt they crave. Goats do not instinctively know they need the minerals, they just know they want salt. Natural salt licks in the wild have other minerals in them they are very seldom anywhere near pure salt. I do feed a loose goat mineral that they have just seemed to start useing up. They didn't seem to like it at first. As for the salt would a hard plain block be good, I know that they do better on a loose mineral but don't know about the salt. The mineral I feed does have some salt in it maybe I don't need to feed extra. I will check into the medicated feed I know that my feed store has one with Dequate in it. I can't say thank you enough. |

I am so sorry she did not make it. I feed a pellet feed called Intimadator it is medicated and they thrive wonderfully on it this may be something that you might want to check on. Keeping minerals and salt and baking soda out free choice are a few more ways to maintain good health. Barbara Howard Capri-Medic jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I can't THANK YOU enough for all the help, I'm sorry to say that she didn't make it, I went outside to do some chores and my 3 yr old came to get me. I came in right away and my 9 yr old said that she had started to convulse and stop breathing, she was already gone. What can I do to prevent this from happening again? I rotationally graze my goats, this pen didn't get to a spot that had been used before, always a new area. None of the areas are rich just your typical grassy weeds mixed with some clover. They have access to fresh water at all times and are watched closley when fed grain. I haven't been feeding grain that is treated with anything, should I be? All my goats have received their CDT vacc. and are a part of the family (as I'm sure yours are) and it is really hard when you try to do the right things and still have something like this happen. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can do so that we hopfully don't have to go through this again. |
