Oh good I'm glad it doesn't look serious. Yep sure can't hurt to know about toxemia and be armed and ready. Like nearly any condition if you catch it early and treat the outcome is much better. And treating for toxemia does no harm.

I think we jumped the gun on the pregnancy toxemia diagnosis, it appears she just hurt her foot. She is eating, drinking fine. Her foot is very sore but feel it is bruised. We are treating that and after giving motrin she feels some better. She was up alot more today then yesterday and I feel confident she is doing good. Thank you for the help as usual, you are great!!
I did learn alot about pregnancy toxemia and might need the info in the future.
Thank you
Dawn

Look for any product used to treat toxemia or milk fever which contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. There are many different brand names, CMPK is just a common one. In a pinch you can give Tums tablets crushed up (6 to 10 every 4 hours or so). Any calcium based antacid should help (give double the adult does every 4 horus or so). I know I prefer to use a liquid when giving an oral med to goats.

Maggie,
Our feed store doesn't carry CMPK...any alternatives? I will be starting her on magic today.
Thanks

Don't blaim the buck yet. Often mineral deficiencies cause weak babies than a buck. Unless you have another bucks kids to compare them to, where the does are virtually the same and the husbandry is the same during the same time.

I bought a buck years ago that was known in his herd of origin for producing very small kids that were often weak. I got him and my does onto proper mineral supplementation and never lost another kid and they were all born a normal size after that. Good thing too as I spent top dollar for a National Champion Stud....

She is also still drinking and eating. I did see her urinate several times yesterday but after reading more about preg. toxemia you are correct as usual. SHe is our pride and joy here, we bought her last year from a very well known breeder of oberhasli's and do not want anything to happen to her, I am more concerned about her then the kids she is bred to a nigerian for her first kidding should I give her lutalyse? The buck she is bred to hasn't had good luck with his kids he has sired, out of 11 kids only 4 have made it. All werre very weak and I just couldn't get them to bounce back no matter what I tried. Needless to say he will not be breeding anymore. I will get a temp today if I have to send my husband to do it. I will probably be calling you today, thanks

Maggie,
Her legs aren't swollen. Just her left foot is sore behind the hock but just in case what is CMPK and propylene glycol, where do I get it and how much do I administer? I didn't get her temp because my daughter is very sick and I have been in the hospital with her tonight and have had zero sleep so far and it is 6am. Long night. I will reserach pregnancy toxemia if I can but if you could tell me a little more that would be great too.
Thanks
Dawn

Get her temp, sounds like it could be more than a sore foot. Be sure she is eating and drinking noramlly, swollen tender front legs can be the start of pregnancy toxemia (hypocalcemia) and needs to be treated with CMPK and propylene glycol or Magic. The timing is certainly right for toxemia.

I have an oberhasli doe due to kid in about 3 weeks. She has bruised her right front hoof, nothing visible to the eye. She just doesn't want to put any weight on it and is laying around. I haven't taken a temp yet but a little earlier she had her head up against the wall. She isn't bloated and looks good. I am puzzled, I will try to go out and get a temp soon. Any ideas?
