Continue for 1-2 days after the white is gone. By then the ulcer should be well on the way to healing too. Actually there may be a tiny white spot at the site of the ulcer that will never go all the way away, but most heal completely. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thanks - that's a relief. Should I continue the biomycin until and ulcer is gone or will that take time to heal on it's own? Or should I only continue 1-2 days after the white is gone? Thanks, Cindy Cindy

The does eye sounds like pinkeye, sometimes they get a little ulcer and this will look like a pit on the cornea of the eye. The breath smell is the rumen working. Likely the new ones have a stronger smell due to the diet change. Odors are transmitted through warm humid air much better than through cold dry air. On that note many real estate agents recommend to clients that have cats or smelly carpets to turn their air conditioning to a very low temp to help "hide" the smell. Beware if you walk into a house you are looking to buy that is very cold... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Bought some new does and while checking eyelids we found one doe had either a little bump or dent (at first it looked dented but now I'm not sure) right in the middle of her eye and it was white behind and around it. We started her on 2cc biomycin the other day, last night was the 3rd night and it looks like the white is starting to fade but it was getting dark so I can't say for sure. The rest of the eye looks ok, it wasn't all glazed over like my other little one who had it. She seems to be able to see ok and it doesn't seem to be bothering her to any degree. I hope it's nothing serious she's only been here since Saturday evening. Her coat looks good except for the back legs. Her whole body is shiney as could be except for the back legs and she eats and drinks normal as well. Also does a goat's breath smell more in the summer because of heat. these goats we brought home have really bad smelling breath. Their whole diet has changed which I guess could contribute but I just wanted to check on it. They are on brome/alfalfa now and used to be on rye and wheat. It kinda of smells like a light septic smell. Any ideas, is it just the hay? The ones we've had here I can kinda smell but not as bad. Thanks for your help! Cindy Cindy
