Triple the sheep dose by weight, you can give an extra cc to be sure. So it would be 3 cc per 7 pounds if you got the old formulation. I see there is a Reduced Volume formula out now too. If you got that one (it says Ivomec-RV on the label) give 1 cc per 7 pounds. I am not sure if the Reduced Volume formula is available in the US yet. To easily figure the dosage just divide the pounds of body weight treated by 3. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie, I was going to worm with Ivomec for cattle and swine but relized that I didn't have enough of it. Went to buy more and they didn't have it, so I got the Ivomec sheep drench 0.08%. I have met people who have used it on their goats but have since forgot what the dosage is. I think that it was somewhat different than the other one. Thanks once again. |

Thanks Maggie, thats what I thought. I have questioned this vets advice before, when I lived on a dairy farm. I will let this person know what you said, I already told her she might want to find another vet that deals with more livestock than small animals although this vet does practice on large animals too. Once again THANK YOU! |

This is a first for me too. I don't know of any distemper vaccine for goats or any other livestock animal. As far as I know only dogs (and related canines) get distemper. The only vaccine most goats need is a CDT vaccine. I have never seen this disease listed in my ruminant textbooks either. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie I was just wondering if you know of a vaccination for distemper in goats? I just had someone tell me that their vet told them that goats need a distemper vacc. I haven't been told this but would like to know if it is something that I should be doing. If so what is it called and where would I find it. Thanks for being there for all of us that have so many questions. |

Worm at least 2 times a year. Here in the SE US (I am in NC) I deworm about 4 to 6 times a year. I deworm goats less than a year old more often, every 45 to 60 days. I deworm all does on the day after they kid no matter when she was dewormed last. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thanks Maggie, I'll get them started, also would it be adviseable to worm them 2x a year (spring and fall) or more often? Should I treat young goats the same? |

For starters I would give it to everyone for 2 days then repeat in 2 weeks. Then for routine deworming give it once, if you repeat it in 2 weeks each time you deworm (giving just 1 dose) you will get the optimum results. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have some ?s about worming, I just started worming with ivomec for cattle and swine and followed your recomendations for goats that have a severe infestation 1cc per 25 lbs. for 2 days orally, and was wondering if I should give it the same way to goats that don't seem to have as much of a problem. I know that they could all be infested but don't want to over do it with the wormer on the ones that don't have as bad of a problem. Thanks in advance for the info. |
