All powdered milk replacers are made from cows milk. There is a good homemade recipe on the Articles page under teh heading Kids and Kidding. I have used cows milk in the past very successfully, the main thing is to feed an appropriate amount. Overfeeding often causes diarrhea, even when using goat milk. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

We have never used any milk other than Kid milk replacement by Purina and have had great success with it. I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that cow milk is not good for goats, although the kid milk replacer also has directions for feeding calves on the container. You can get this at most feed stores. You'll also need some smaller nipples and we usually mix up the milk in old water bottles. Follow the directions closely and do not over feed the baby or he can get bloat which can kill him. As for the green diarea, you might had better call a vet about that. I've never seen it before. Good luck and bless you for being such a good steward of God's creatures. |

We have just picked up a 2-3 week old baby goat. The mother died and the people that had her were just going to leave her. I know she should still be bottle fed. Is there a "formula" I can make at home for her? Also, they tried feeding her cows milk and she has severe green diahrea. What can I give her to cure that? |

We have had several bottle fed kids that at different times have stopped drinking. Try holding the goats mouth up like a baby and literally force the nipple into their mouth, from the side. Try putting your finger in his mouth first and then slip the nipple in. Sometimes you just have to squirt a small portion and they will drink. Sadly, sometimes this will not work and they will die from dehydration if they do not drink. Keep trying and best of luck! |

I have a two week old bottle goat. He has grown great, always eats, and now all of a sudden he has gone off of his bottle. Any suggestions of what to do. It has already been almost a whole day since he ate. HELP!!!!! We really do not want to lose him. |
