When you have a retained placenta NEVER PULL It that would tear the uterus and the goat would die from it. You can give her 2cc of LUTALYSE to cause the uterus to contract more. You can also use a douche bottle fill it with warm water and add 2 tablespoons of salt in it insert that into the uterus this will help the fingers of the placenta to turn lose of the uterus. I would also tie a water ballon or something to put a gravity pull on the placenta this really helps. You will want to put a uterine bolus in the uterus when she is clean out good because of infection. Barbara Howard Capri-Medic jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I had my last Doe kid (give birth) this morning and she did not pass her placenta. I'm a dairy farmer (cows) and when a cow does this it is of a lot of concern. I'm new to goats this year and was wondering if this was has serious in goats has cows. It is now 9:56 pm my time and wondering what I should do. With a cow you most often end up putting your hand up in her and pulling it out then packing her with iodine. Then alot of penicillin , injected into muscle. I was hoping for any help soon. Thanks alot. |
