Hi, You need to start him on Naxcel 1cc/25 lbs sq twice a day what we want is to kill the infection that is causing navel ill before it gets started heavy. Do you have a temp on him? You will need to watch the temp you can give him liquid children's Motrin 1cc/10lbs orally. If this starts to get bigger then seek the advice of a vet. I have just had a 4 mos old buck with an umbilical hernia that started out the size of a ping pong ball. I waited to see if it would resolve itself. It didn't. In fact it grew to the size of a grapefruit. I did take him to our vet who performed surgery. Because it was so larger the surgery was extensive and we almost lost him because the surgery took so long. The happy ending is that the little buck is doing great due to fantastic vet care. I would suggest that you take him now to the vet and have it treated before it gets too large. If you can push it up into his abdominal cavity it is an umbilical hernia. I would make the vet visit now. |

I'm no authority on this, but I can tell you my experience. I had a buckling with other health issues but he also had an umbilical hernia, larger than a pea, more marble sized. The vet told me that small ones can resolve on their own but his was large and might need surgery. You could actually take your finger and feel the opening in his abdominal wall. The poor little guy never needed treatment for that because I lost him to another illness despite vet and my best care. Give it some time before you start worrying. |

I just noticed that my 6 week old pygmy baby has a slight protrusion at his umbilical site. The protrusion is about the size of a pea. What can I do about this? Will this heal on its own being so small? Could it just be some cord that has pulled out? |
