Thank you Ainslee. I have been paying such close attention to him he might just make it. He may have had some stress due to my neighbors new puppy ( the size of a pony& growing). Which they seem to think its fine for him to chase all the livestock even my family milk goats + my Cashmere's. I tried to explain that dogs can really upset goats. They didn't seem to care. Oh well for me I guess I can't expect everyone to have the same set of manners I have. I have been over consered that he went wormy & have vigorously been treating him w/ hoegger's herbal wormer, he is still drinking & having all excretion movements. I just hope he begins to eat again soon. Were working on 4 days of only nibbling on hay. He does seem a little anemic. I say this becuase I am handling him for treatments by myself, & he does not seem very fond of the nutrients. If you have any ideas please post again . I will be sure to post my sucess or other wise as it is fit. |

My young buck did the same thing back in March. We tried everything we could think of but nothing would get him to eat. We never did find out what it was, but after a few days he started back to normal. If anything has changed for the young goat it could just be stress. Mine was in the final week of training for his first show so we think that might be what did it. We just gave him some Vitamin B Complex and nutradrench until he was better. Good luck! |

ANY vet can do a fecal exam. Check with your small animal vet. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

There are no Vets in eastern Co who treat goats . Despite large numbers spread across it. I may be able to send it for testing do you know of a place? |

Depends on what is wrong with him and whether treatment is effective. They can go quite a while, a week or so, on just water. Everything you have given so far treats symptoms, and may not solve the actual problem. See if you can get him to a vet tomorrow for fecal testing and maybe bloodwork. How long before you see them eating again. I have given goldenseal & echinacea human grade tested for quality. He usually has sodium bicarbonate but he is not really eating much other than salt like and some hay |

Then do a fecal check to be sure he really is free of worms. He may also have a touch of entero or acidosis. For this I treat with CD antitoxin at the therapeutic dose and penicllin twice a day. I also give the probiotics and baking soda. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Yes it is 39.2c or 102.5. he is not stumbly or wobbly he is still quite strong. I do not suspect Pneumonia either my barn and goat yard are clean and both have green grass in them + shade. I have only a few goats for an organic family dairy & cashmere. I do love him very much |

Did you actually take his temperature? You can't tell by feeling him if he has a fever. Pneumonia is really quite common in the summer. Is he at all wobbly or unsteady on his feet? He may be thiamin deficient. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

My 11 month old billy goat has stopped eating, very suddenly. Thrusday 6-8-2006 he did not eat his dinner time ration & has not started to eat ration yet. Continued to eat hay until Friday night 6-9-2006.I started to give nutra drench at 2ozs. twice a day. After reading many threads & with recent heat wave I began to suspect worms. Normally I treat all goats with hoegger's worm compond as directed monthly. Also I routinely every three months do a 4 day treatment. Saturday morning started molasses & herbal compond + probios microbial bovine oral gel for all ruminants as directed for hospital use, also electrolyte at 4ozs per hr. I believe he is still drinking on his own but only nibbles on hay. He other wise is lathargic and does not run to greet me. He troats away apoun treatment & can still put up quite a fight. eye lids are very pink gums are pale. He does not seem to be running any fever. no coughing or other previous indicator of health problem. Any ideas in how to get him eating again? Or other possible problem? |
