If it was my kid I would give him 1/4 cc Thiamin 250mg IM, then up to 2 times for 3 days if the kid continues to be weak. Also 5cc of 50% Dextrose orally. If dextrose not available can use Karo syrup but should not be given more than twice in a 24 hr period because they also act as a laxitve. The Bo-Se might help if you are in a known deficiency area. Keeping the kid from losing its body heat is critical. Put your finger in the kids mouth and if it's cold and slimy I would take the kid in the house and put it in a laundry basket with a heat pad (put a towel over the pad). But be careful as this can contribute to dehydration and not overheat or can cause shock. |

Hi, What is the baby's temp? I would inject 30cc of Lactated Ringers in each shoulder SQ. Give him this until the bubbles under the skin stay for 15 minutes. I would give him 1/2cc of Bo-Se under the tongue. Tube him with warm black coffee with 10cc of Dextrose in it? Can he not nurse at all? Barbara Howard Capri-Medic jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I have a three day old buckling that has become lethargic today. I have given nutradrench, pennicillan ( he has a cold in his eyes), tube fed him, gave him an enema, and some vitamin B complex, he is much worse right now. I don't know what else to do and I don't think he will make it much longer. |
