The stress of going to a show will make them sicker and expose them to more respiratory disease bacteria. Your fellow exhibitors WILL NOT appreciate you showing up with sick goats and it will reflect on your reputation and professionalism.

You may wish to have a fecal check done to see if the deworming is working.

If the coughing is caused by lungworms you will have to use something else like ivermectin. Herbal dewormers do not affect lungworms.

Vet RX only treats the symptom it does nothing to cure the cause.

Hi
I have a show tomorrow. My best 3 mo. old buck and his two sisters persistently snuffle and cough A LOT! Now the little buck has a very snotty nose (kind of whitish gunk) His temp is 101.7. I thought of worming him AGAIN (they have been herbally wormed and faithfully). What do you think? I certainly don't want to take them to the show if there is mucous coming out of their noses. I can clear it up with vetrx but what do you think.
thanks again

If they are acting normal they probably don't need antibiotics. It may just be irritation from the ammonia or a virus. I don't worry unless the fever is over 105 and the kid acts sick.

HI MAGGIE My goats are all acting normal. They eat and play but they just cough and like I said, the one had a temp. I chose not to give anything to the 1 week old because his temp went down. I wil take it in the am. again. I think that the stalls are a bit damp underneath and that there might have been too much ammonia. Hope the little guy is o.k. I got the LA200 and I could give him a dose. Maybe I should go and take his temp now?
I am changing minerals on Monday and hoping that will help.
Blessings

Are they acting normal? Eating drinking and playing? What color is any nasal or eye discharge?

Temperature changes, overcrowding, ammonia in the barn (get down on their level, does it smell of ammonia?), mineral deficiency are all reasons that a herd can have chronic respiratory problems. Are you taking the temps in the morning or afternoon? If it is hot where you are the temps are not that high...Mnay of my healthy pygmy kids can have a temp of 104 on a hot afternoon. But mine don't have respiratory symptoms to get with it.(knock wood)

I prefer to use naxcel for treating respiratory infections. But you have to get this from a vet. Or you can use Tylan 200, this is over the counter. Both of these seem to get better results than penicillin and oxytet. Both penicillin and oxytet have been used for so long the bacteria have gotten very resistant.

I have two kids with temps of 104.2 and 104.3. The one month old is coughing and the 1 week old is snuffling. I only have Pen G because my tetracycline has not come. I hope we can get a handle on WHY! this is happening. I also have a 3 mo. buck that snurffes very much but I need to go out and take his temp.
any comments welcome
thanks
