Thanks, Sandi. I'll keep an eye on him. He has lived a cursed life. He was the "runt" of triplets to a 1st time mom and was the 1st I was ever successful at saving. He was cold & nearly dead. Then he contracted Orf, gave it to his siblings & his mom's teats and just recently has been getting enough to eat without supplementation. Now this. Through it all, he is aggressive and a survivor. I've caught him and his brother stealing from other nursing moms who aren't paying attention to who is nursing. If he lives a few more weeks he'll be part of my kid crop that goes to market but he doesn't need to have a grossly deformed leg. Thanks again for the advice. Lynne |

Lynn - I had the same thing happen. I waited 4 weeks. When I took the splint off, it was obvious that the bones had shifted after being splinted, because the leg is very crooked. It has healed too much now to fix it. This doe will never be shown, and may not be suitable for breeding. I would recommend taking the splint off with the animal fully restrained after about a week to check alignment, then put it back on and wait 2 to 4 more weeks before removing it. |

6 week old kid was stepped on--rear leg is fractured between "knee" & foot. I splinted it; he is moving around on 3 legs and in no apparent discomfort. How long should it take to heal? |
