Pen her and her dam in a small pen where you will be able to care for the sick kid.

This goat has polio caused by a thiamin deficiency or listeria, a brain infection. Giving thiamin and penicillin at fairly high and frequent doses is the only useful treatment and will treat either condition. You can use Fortified B Complex, give 1 cc per 20 pounds by SQ injection every 2 to 4 hours for the first day. The 2 to 3 times for 5 to 7 more days. Or if you have to use the regular formula you have to give 1 cc per 2 pounds by SQ injection. Give penicillin by SQ injection at 1 cc per 20 pounds (give at least 0.5 cc) on the same schedule. You can get these mediciations at most feed stores, be sure to buy a supply of syringes and needles, a 20 gauge 1 inch needle works best, syringes at 3 to 12 cc is probably what you will need.

You will have to help her nurse, but she should be some better and able to nurse when the thiamin takes effect. Or you will have to tube feed or feed by syringe to keep her nourished and hydrated.

I am emailing my phone numver feel free to call me.

I am a first time writer. I have been feeding someones yard goats while they are out of town (and unable to reach them). A kid about 4-6 wks old was caught in the fence this morning. When I retrieved her I noticed she was drooling and the ground was wet underneath her mouth. After that she would only stand still with head drooping until she would almost fall over. A few times when her mother bleated she would run in circles until she reached her. I just got her out of the fence again and she just lays on her side with her head bent back over her shoulder. I have been looking on the internet for the past couple of hours for some info with no luck! I know the owner would only spend a minimum on them and a vet would be out of the question. Any ideas or instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
