It could be lungworms. Deworming with Ivomec (or a generic) Injectable for Cattle at 1 cc per 25 pounds for 2 days and repeat in 2 weeks. It does take several weeks for the lungs to heal from lungworms and the cough will gradually diminish after that.

LA 200 is safe during pregnancy so long as it isn't given for a very long time (like a month or more). I have often used in on kids to very successfully treat navel and joint ill. The ONLY thing it really does is stain the teeth and bones. Some people don't like to see dark bones when the goat is butchered...

It can be an allergy and you would have to give the Benedryl at 1 cc per 10 pounds every 4 to six hours. Benedryl will not cure the problem only treat the symptom. I would wait until after they kid to try this as they are otherwise fine. It can make an animal lethargic (just like a person).

I have 2 nannies that I bought a couple months ago. They were pregnant. They had a dry cough when I bought them. And the person I bought them from gave them LA200. It didn't help. One nanny kidded 2 days ago and the other is due in 2 days. I won't give LA200 to my prego's because of the kids. The have no fever, they eat very well, and they act fine other than 15-20 "coughing spells" a day. It is a real dry cough. I tried pennicillin for 5 days, still no help. Can it be an allergy? It has been real dry here for a long time. Could it be dust or something in the hay? Can they take Benadryl?
