It is possible she did not give enough dewormer. Do you know what she used and how much she gave? Safeguard and Panancur don't work well (if at all) anymore. I recommend trying Ivermectin Injectable for Cattle and Swine give it orally at 1 cc per 25 pounds for 2 days, repeat in 2 weeks. Look at the lower inner eyelids for color, they should be deep rosy or salmon pink. If they are pale pink or white the goat has worms. Did she use Corid for the coccidia? This is not effective in many places anymore. Try a sulfa drug such as Sulmet or Albon 12.5% Drinking Water Solution. Do not add to the water but give straight from the bottle at 1 cc per 5 pounds once a day for 5 days. It is possible this doe has salmonella or e. coli. She might try Biosol or Scour Halt using the directions for piglets. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

My friend has a goat that has had diarrhea for 2 wks. She has tried everything on that goat- wormers, anti-diarrhea treatments, cocci treatments, everything. The goat looks worse today. To be quite honest, I am surprised the goat is still alive! Anyone have any ideas on what this is, and what to do about it. It is a doe that came down w/ diarhea 2 days after she kidded. The kid had diarrhea at 2 days old, but it cleared up w/ in 1 day. The kid is fine now, but the mom is not. Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you! |
