It finally opened up WOW! so I'm excited. The material is white, very very thick, and very very sticky with no odor. I would like to know the protocol/treatment to get it to clear up hopefully within three weeks so that I can show this doe on June 3rd. I expressed it somewhat ... Jn 3:16

I think CL (caseous lymphadenitis) can have both liquidy pus and harder cheesier pus material depending on when the abscess is opened. Caseous does mean cheesy. Generally an abscess wall is very thick....CL abscesses involve a lymph node. Where exactly is this abscess? The lymph nodes around the head are just under the ear and under the jaw about where the base of the tongue is... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I tried to lance it yesterday but probably due to my inexperience, I did not do it. Probably did not get through the layers of skin (maybe I weakened the site of the point of the abcess?) hopefully. I was concerned about CL but they say that would be a hard lump. Is that right? thanks carlene Jn 3:16

Probably is an abscess and the stuff inside is too thick to come through a needle. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thanks much! If it is an abcess vs. a salivary cyst, what would I see when I use the needle. |

Almost all abscesses will pop without the vet lancing it. Whether it heals well after that can be another thing. You can lance it yourself. I would be sure it is an abscess and not something else like a salivary cyst. You can stick a needle into the center and draw out a bit of the contents to see what is inside the swelling before lancing or letting it pop on its own. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a 3 yr. old doe who appears to have an abcessed tooth. It is all swollen and seems to be getting bigger and bigger (slowly.) There is a soft center. I was hoping it would burst with out having the vet lance it. What do you think? thanks carlene |
