I would wash my hands, make sure your nails are short, wear a glove if you have one. Ky Jelly is the best lubricant, but soapy water works pretty well too. Vaseline is not the best choice but some people use it.

At first you can stick 2 or 3 fingers into the vagina as far as you can to see if you feel a kid (nose, foot...) You should be able to tell if the cervix is open or opening. If the cervix is open you can make your fingers into a cone and go farther in to see if the kid is presenting nose and feet first to the cervix or if it is in a bad position and needs to be corrected.

Sometimes it is easier with the doe standing, sometimes it is better with the doe laying down. I find that if I have to go all the way into the uterus to reposition a kid it is easier and you have more room with the doe standing.

Does will pass bloody mucus for a while (30 to 45 minutes) before they push out the first bubble and break their water. Then within 30 minutes they should push out another bubble, this one with a kid in it.

If everything seems normal, give her another 30 minutes and if she doesn't make progress you need to help her deliver or get her to a vet or a vet out to her.

Go to http://fiascofarm.com/goats/kidding.htm for more information and take a look at the photos of the does kidding.
