Make sure the nursing mom does not have a temp and that her udder and milk is normal. A doe with some type of bacteria can contaminate the baby thru the milk. Just a thought from a pass experience I had.

Yes give the penicillin twice a day. it takes at least 24 hours or so for antibiotics to begin to work.

Guess I spoke too soon. The kid now has temp of 104.5. I gave her 1 cc of motrin which I will continue during the night. Do I give her penicillin twice a day or only once a day?

I gave her penicillin and motrin last night. Her temp was 103.5 this morning. I will continue the penicillin for 3 more days.

Thanks, Barbara

Do I get Nuflor from my vet? Will Penicillin work meanwhile?

Her mom is nursing her - everything is okay from that perspective.

Hi, Brenda
I haven't heard from you in a while.
Yes it sounds like pnuemonia I would start her on 1cc of Nuflor every 12 hours.

For the temp give her liquid childrens motrin 2cc every 4 hours as needed for temp.

Will she nurse her mama if not you will have to tube her.

I have a 2 day old doe. I noticed a few minutes ago that she was breathing rather rapidly. Her temp is 105.1. Could she have pneumonia?

I gave her some Nutridrench about 3 hours after she was born plus 1 cc of Albon. She weighs 8 lbs today.
