Thank you again for the time and info. I was able to get him to a vet today. He has a high fever and the vet seems to think he has a respritory condition. Did some blood work but twice got mixed results. Sending off sample to be run for some other kind of problem but thinks the pen will clear it up.Thank you again. |

Hi You can get the Penicillin and CD&T at the feed store but you will have to get straight thiamin at the vets. However you can get foritvide vitamin b at the feed store if it has 100mg thiamin give 5cc sq if it has 200mg give 2 1/2cc if it has 500mg give 1cc/sq. Thanks for the info. No, he hasn't had any vacinations. We only have a few goats as pets/brush control and have only ever dewormed them. I will contact the vet again tomorrow during regular hours and find out about the vaccines you mentioned. Do I get the other stuff from the vet or a farm supply store. He really isn't making any noises that we've heard. He made a little cough or two when we were trying to check his mouth for obstructions and looking at his gums. Is this something contagious? Should we seperate him from the others? |

Hi,is this boy current on his CD and T vaccinations does he holler any. It sounds a lot like listeriosis. Do you have any cd antitoxin if so give him 6cc sq and 6cc orally for enterotoxemia. I would also give him 1cc/20 lbs of procaine penicillin sq every 6 hours for 24 hours then twice a day for 5 days. I would give him 500mg of thiamin sq on the same schedule as the pen. Also give him a probiotic for 6 days. Barbara Howard Capri-Medic jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I have a nubian weather who is about 4. When I went out to feed today he was not in sight. Usually I have to fight him off just to get in the gate. I fed everyone else and went to find him. He was standing off to the side of the barn with his front feet up on a railroad tie. He looked strange, I called him over to me and he wouldn't budge. I went to him and looked him over. He seemed to be leaning his head down and to one side a little. His lips and cheeks and even tail were quivering. I offered him a bit of grain and what he would normally grab in a minute he just picked at a little and then left it. He kept walking away from me when I tried checking him out. This is also not at all normal, he loves to be pet. His hair was falling out by just passing my hand over and when he ate the bite of grain his mouth looked a little foamy. I was initially concerned because I thought he may have choked on something. He was given some bites of apple 2 days ago and was given the core as well and he was given some alphalpa cubes that were not broken up. I called the vet. He asked if he had urinated, I told him we did not know. He asked if he was an intact male, No. He asked when we had wormed him last and that has been quiet a while. We told him about the apple and everything else and he said to deworm him. That was it, not that we should watch for other symtoms or call later, just deworm him. I'm really worried about him and hate to wait and have something else be wrong. We have other goats and they are all acting fine. Any advise would be greatly apprieciated. Thank you. |
