Thanks Maggie - that is what I thought. I didn't know the worms would make them isolate from the herd though. We started her on the magic and B complex yesterday. I'll make sure we check her eye-lids and re-worm if it seems necessary.

Look at her lower inner eyelids, are they pale or white? If so her problem was (may still be) worms. Goats with severe worm infestation will isolate themselves from the herd and go off feed. For this you may need to repeat the deworming to get all of the worms. Then start her on Geritol to rebuild her blood and for the extra vitamins (give the adult dose twice a day), and give B Complex twice a day to encourage appetite and sooth the injured gut, and give a probiotic to replenish the lost digestive microbes. This may be all she needs.

But it won't hurt to also treat for toxemia, giving CMPK and Magic 2 to 3 times a day. You treat for toxemia until the doe is eating normally, then you can taper off. If she begins to lose appetite again you have to begin treating again. So you may have to treat for the rest of the pregnancy.

My neighbor's nubian doe is off feed. She had diarrhea 3 days ago - we treated with ivermectin 1cc/30 lbs. Now she is off feed. She seems to be isolating herself from the herd. She is pregnant, but not due until June 25! I think she should be treated for toxemia, but not sure which is best course for her. I know some of the treatments can make scouring worse. Also - if she responds to this treatment, will we have to treat for the remainder of the pregnancy?
