Most people vaccinate with a CDT vaccine (Clostridium Types C and D and Tetanus) giving the first by SQ injection at 8 to 10 weeks (no sooner) and boostering in 21 days then yearly thereafter. A vaccine given any sooner than 8 weeks old does no good as the goat doesn't have an active immune system. A vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies so an animal has to HAVE an active immune system for a vaccine to work. Before that the kid is being protected by the antibodies it absorbed from the dam's colostrum.

Most on line vet supply companies (Jeffer's Valley Vet) carry this vaccine. Some feed stores have them too.

Do kids need vaccinating? I called vet to see if he had goat vaccinations and they said no, I have 3 kids, 2 of them are about 11 wks and the other around 2 wks. If they need vacccinated when should I start and where do you get you vaccinations , and what is the name of them?
