Activated charcoal (you can usually get something like this at the drug store in liquid form, give an adult dose) is a good idea and there are 2 plant poisoning remedies on teh articles page under antidotes. The main thing is to try to keep fresh water in front of the goat to help maintain hydration. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I just got an emergency call from a goat owner acquaintence. He has a doe that was off, a bit "swollen". No fever, apparently, but no temp reported. Now, she is down and vomitng. I've had to deal with GI problems but never had a case of vomits, so my usual first reaction remedies (bicarbonate, Pepto or Milk of Magnesia, B complex +, if necessary, enterotoxemia measures such as antitoxin and penn G) don't seem adequate for the problem. I wonder about poisoning -- chemical or plant, since these goats are largely free range and though to of activated charcoal, but am really at a loss and would appreciate ideas. Eva |
