I have used oxytetracycline at 1 cc per 30 pounds once a day by SQ injection for 5 to 7 days with very good results. The dose for penicillin is 1 cc per 15 to 20 pounds by SQ injection twice a day for at least 5 days. Also milking out the infected side as often as you can (3 to 4 times a day) really helps. What you describe is typical of many types of mastitis, chunky stringy milk... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a doe who is only letting her kid nurse on one side. I milked her out on the full side and she was fine, no clotting or anything. She was full again today so I milked her out and the orifice was getting clogged up with big chunks of what looks like skin (it's white and stretchy) and I have to pull them out. I did the CMT test for mastitis and it is positive, so I know that is a problem, but I've never seen huge pieces of stuff come out and I am wondering if something else is going on. Does she need to go to the vet for this? Also, I can't remember what to give for mastitis. Is it Penicillin, 5cc subQ once a day? Is 5cc the right amount? I have notes on all of this, I just can't find them. Thanks for the help. |
