Well you're questions make me feel better. She always has her mouth closed, no flaring of the nostrils, and no sign of fever right now but is still on penc. And her abdomen does move as well when she is breathing. I'll stop the penicillin on the regularly scheduled day instead of continuing for a few extra days and keep an eye on the temperature after we do so. Oh to be in the clear certainly would be nice for her and for me.

One or two coughs is nothing. When they lay around alot they don't breathe very deeply so when they get up they clear their lungs with a deep cough. They almost always run a fever with pneumonia, check that. You can also compare her rate and effort to another adult goat. Does she breathe more rapidly? Does her abdomen move in and out as well as her chest? Do her nostrils flair alot? Does she breathe through her mouth? These are signs of labored breathing.

Do I need a stethescope to check for pneumonia or can I just take a good listen with my ear to her chest. What exactly should I be listening for rumbling? She seems to have fine breathing just standing by her -barely hear her at all. The only thing that concerns me is the deep down cough she gave us the other day and she lays down in the shed a lot-mostly just gets up to feed kids and I've seen her walk around a bit but then go lay back down. Sorry for so many questions but this has been our first really sick goat and we're doing everything we can. Thanks!
