He is feeling alot better, he has ate about 3oz since 5am today and the last time he sucked an oz from a bigger nipple and was even trying to be alittle frisky. Should I feed every 2hrs or 4hrs and about how much would you say he should at least eat oz wise at a feeding? You have been so much help to me, Thank you!! I have 2 orphins that are about 8wks old that I have been feeding but they have been a breeze compared to this little guy.

Karo may help or it may give him diarrhea making the dehydration worse. I would continue with the enema and try to be sure he is getting enough to eat. Since he has been nursing so little that is why he is dehydrated and constipated (they go hand in hand).

The little boy is still with us, he was constipated, I was going to try and give an enma today but he had a huge bowel movement last night. It had clumps and was pasty and some mucus. He was acting a 100% better this morning, even going around looking for something to nurse and even was making alittle noise, that is the best he has acted since he's been here. He nursed about an oz from a baby bottle and I gave him an oz more with a syringe, he laid back down and is still laying. Do you think he needs an enma now ? I rememeber my mother raised puppies on a bottle once and put Karo syrup in the formula, I think it was to help with constipation, would this be o:k to do.

Just keep feeding the milk. Electrolytes don't really have much nutrition in them they are made to give an overstressed digestive system a rest. It is pretty normal for the kids to have runny poop, it beats the heck out of being constipated. His poop should be yellow by now.

Is there anything else I can do, I am not prepared to tube feed. He has sucked some this morning and keeps standing up and has walked a little. I am feeding or trying to feed the milk recipe that is on here. I have a pack of electrolyte plus here but dont know if I should try it or not , brand of it is save a caf but it says it is for goats , sheep too. Our local feed store does not carry alot. He did poop a large amount earlier and has peed, although his poop is kinda runny. Thank you so much for all your help, I will just keep trying.

It should be active and frisky playing and exploring. They usually poop 4 to 5 times a day. This kid just isn't getting enough to eat to keep its blood sugar up and produce body heat or have the energy to nurse.

The baby is still alive, I have been working with it all afternoon and have given it up at least a couple of times to have been dieing, it is still hanging on. I think it may be trying to nurse alittle , I have been rubbing it's throat while I have the bottle in and I think it is swallowing some. It wants to stand up some and has walked alittle. How should a 2 day old goat be acting and also how often should it be having a bowel movement? It has not had any since I got it.

Take its temperature, if it is 100 or less you need to get its temperature up. You can put a plastic grocery bag in it up to its neck and immerse it in a sink of very warm water, then dry it with a blow dryer. This gost desparately needs to be fed:

You can use plain cows milk for now to feed it, put a teaspoon of karo syrup in about a cup of milk. Using a regular baby bottle with the hole in the nipple made larger (the milk should drip freely) warm the milk until it is nearly hot on your wrist (a goats body temp is much higher than a humans and baby goats like their milk very warm). You will have to teach it to take a bottle. SIt on the floor with the goat in your lap goat facing to the left. With the bottle in your right hand wrap your right arm around the outside of the kids body holding him close. With your left thumb pry open the kids mouth and insert the nipple, hold the mouth closed around the nipple and squirt in some milk. The otehr option is to tube feed but you probably don't have the equipment for that at hand. There is a very good homemade milk repalcer recipe on the Articles page under Kids and Kidding.

I have a 2 day old baby goat some one just brought me, I cant get it to eat and it sounds like it might be a little croupy. It had been out in the rain this morning and the man said he thought it was dead. It is standing up but I hav'nt seen it walk any. Could someone please tell me what to do for it?
