If it makes you feel any better, my vet suggests Ivomec Injectable as well, verses the drench. I do not do shots, but my husband and son have no problems with it, so I don't question him as to why. It is just a guess on my part, but I am wondering if your vet prefers the injectable because you have a big case of worms and perhaps injecting will take care of the problem faster??
