I have been gone for a few days so I am catching up. So I hope I haven't repeated anything. I believe Deborah's goats(I hope I have the right person I have the flu so i am not in my right mind) have gotten into pokeweed the berries are a pinkish color before they ripen I don't believe eating the leaves are as bad as eating the berries my goat eats it once in a while but never eats the berries.
The scientific name is Phytolacca americana L. it is a perennial so it needs to be pulled or sprayed with round up, cutting this plant will not kill it or keep it from returning next year. It does cause severe GI problems in humans and in animals if it is consumed on a regular basis. But is not real harmful when the leaves are less than 3 inches long and there are no berries on the plant. Poke is found in areas that has been cultivated or stays moist most of the year. I hope this helps.
